How records are prepared
Records are added after the citation has been checked against a DOI record, publisher page, Version of Record or another first-party source. Titles and author order follow the publication.
Taxa and places are indexed only when supported by the cited work. A checked citation does not mean that every name or locality in the paper has been added.
Unknown values are left blank. If official sources disagree, both readings are recorded and the page explains which one is used.
Editor’s notes are added only when a record needs clarification, comparison between sources or extra context.
Tools and editorial responsibility
Automated tools help with source discovery, cross-checking, validation and site maintenance. Language models may be used to draft wording. They are not treated as sources; factual statements are checked against linked first-party sources.
Igor Orlov makes the editorial decisions and is responsible for the published catalogue.
